This is the only poem that I have ever written. It took
10 years to write. It started out as a Xmass greeting
card poem and every year for Xmass I would re-write
it. One year I got it down to two words: Love is...
This is the final version. Before the two word version.
Sighs & Sounds
What's patient, kind, and forgiving,
yet never haughty, selfish, or rude?
Is it the cry of a newborn babe?
What's never irritable, touchy, or picky,
yet never holds any grudges or scruples?
Is it the roar of the sea?
What's always given freely and openly,
without expecting anything in return?
Is it the sparkle in your lover's eyes?
What brought about your conception,
and nurtured you through life?
Is it the flash & flurry of a storm?
What's the well soul of joy and happiness,
and the oppositte of sorrow and hate?
Is it a mother nursing her child?
What's free as the flight of a bird,
yet never consuming or possessing
Is it a sunrise or a sunset?
What's accepting others as they are,
and not what they ain't?
Is it a child's cry in the night?
What's always open and honest,
and never lying to yourself or another?
Is it the lying eyes that cause it to fail?
What's caring, sharing, and feeling,
and empathizing with your mate?
Is it a warm and close embrace?
What enriches those who receive it
without impovershing those who give it?
Is it the cry of the wolf at midnight?
What's the only perpetual motion machine around,
that makes the world go round and round?
Is it the smile on grandma's face?
What continues on even after death,
yet you don't know what you lost till its gone?
Is it the song of a mocking bird?
What's never feigned or faked,
But genuine and chaste like freshly fallen snow?
Is it the signs and sounds that your lover makes?
This is the first version. It was written when the
movie "The Right Stuff" came out
The Right Stuff
It's patient, kind, and forgiving.
It's never jealous, envious, or resentful.
It's bever boastful, proud, or pretentious.
Nor haughty, selfish, or rude.
I isn't irritable, touchy, or picky.
It doesn't demand its own way.
It doesn't hold and grudges or scuples
Nor does it expect and notice
when ohters get in the way.
It costs nothing, but creates much.
It's always given freely and openly,
without expecting anything in return
It enriches those who receive it,
without improverishing those who give it.
It's brought about our consception,
and nutures us through life.
It's never glad about injustice,
but rejoices whten truth and justeice prevails.
It's the well soul of joy,
happiness and contentment.
And the antithesis of sorrow and hate.
It's not consumming, or possessing,
or owing, or owning.
It's as free aas the filght of a bird.
It's caring, sharing, and feeling.
And empathizing with your mate.
It's believing, it'sseeing, it's touching.
It's finding and accepting others as they are
and not what they ain't.
It's loyalty, it's trust, and respecting others.
And defending them no matter what the cost or fate.
It's an entity onto itself.
It's self-perpetuating.
And it thrives, endures, and grows on itself.
Finally, it's God's greatest gift to us
'cause it's the "right" stuff,
that makes the world go round. love(printed upside down)
